The next iteration of the Windows client has moved out of the pre-Beta development stage and has already been released to testers. Windows 7 Beta is live after just three Milestone releases, leaving behind 69xx build numbers and jumping to the 7000 Build. Moreover, just as it was the case with previous development milestone releases of Windows Vista's successor, Windows 7 Beta Build 7000 has been leaked and made available for download from various third-party sources including top BitTorrent websites. This, in the context in which Microsoft insists that the Windows 7 public Beta will only start being offered in January 2009.

At this point in time, only the 32-bit edition of Windows 7 Beta Build 7000 can be grabbed via repositories for pirated content by any users with a BitTorrent client. Even though the 64-bit flavor of first fully-fledged Beta for the operating system has also been served to Microsoft's official and select pool of testers, just the bits for the x86 variant of the platform have been leaked.

Unconfirmed speculations indicated that the Windows 7 Beta code had been signed off internally as early as December 12, 2008, and that the Redmond company was handing over the code for testing even ahead of Christmas. Microsoft failed to comment in any manner on the leaked information related to Windows 7 Beta Build 7000. However, Build 6.1.7000.0.081212-1400, which was reported to be the first Beta for Windows 7, is now live and up for grabs, although the general public will indeed have to wait until January 2009 in order to access the bits from a Microsoft official source.

The leaked Windows 7 Beta Build 6.1.7000.0.081212-1400 release comes packed as an ISO DVD, weighing in some 2.44 GB. The image is meant to be burned on a DVD and then installed either on a physical computer or a virtual machine. According to Microsoft, the Windows 7 Operating System Beta, as the release is referred to via the End Users License Agreement included with the Beta bits and accessible through the installation process, is time-bombed and set to expire on July 1, 2009. Users can install and run Windows 7 Beta Build 6.1.7000.0.081212-1400 without a product key, and need only prolong the initial grace period via slmgr.

Using USB to install
If you not Have DVD driver, you can use USB 4GB to install Window 7

Connect the USB flash drive and make sure that you know its address. In order to find this out, just type "list disk" after you run CMD.exe. The USB flash drive will have an address like this "disk 1", but we will continue to refer to it as "disc x" where "x" is the number of the drive on your computer. You will now need to enter the following commands:

1. diskpart
2. select disk 1
3. clean
4. create partition primary
5. select partition 1
6. active
7. format fs=fat32 quick
8. assign
9. exit

Using "xcopy d:*.* /s/e/f e:", simply copy the entire content of the Windows 7 DVD on the flash drive. Boot the computer from the USB drive and simply install Windows 7.

Fix Gadgets Not Working or Showing When UAC Is Set To Not Notify or Disabled in Windows 7 Beta

When the UAC (User Account Control) in Windows 7 Beta is disabled or set to no notify, the gadgets stop working (happens in at least build 6956 and 7000). Other error symptom is that when right click on Desktop to select “Gadgets” won’t bring up dialog window with list of gadgets, and any added gadgets won’t be showing or displaying, even after restarting or rebooting computer.

Suicide Solution on My Digital Life Forum has managed to develop a fix that allows various gadgets to be used on desktop even when UAC is turned off. The trick is to make use of Windows Sidebar components from Windows Vista, which supports original style of Windows Sidebar (pin to the side of desktop together with gadgets) that can be run even if UAC is disabled or turned off.

Follow these steps to perform the hack:

1. Close all gadgets on desktop.
2. Take ownership and grant full control permissions for Administrators user group of the following files located in C:Program FilesWindows Sidebar folder:

settings.ini
sidebar.exe

And inside the en-US Folder:

sbdrop.dll.mui
Sidebar.exe.mui
3. Rename to backup the 4 files listed above.
4. Download Win7-Sidebar-Fix.zip.
5. Extract and copy the contents of the ZIP file to their corresponding folders in C:Program FilesWindows Sidebar folder, overwrite and replace existing files if applicable.
6. Re-add gadgets to desktop.

When using Windows Sidebar from Windows Vista, the sidebar bar will be shown on the left or right side of desktop as in Windows Vista. Users who prefer to have everything relate to Windows 7 can try to use Windows Sidebar modules from Windows 7 Build 6801 (download Win7-7801-Sidebar.zip) instead. However, in our testing, it’s not working too.
